Does My Primary Care Physician Want Me To See A Chiropractor?

Call Today (863) 421-9700

Chiropractic Care: What If Your Primary Care Physician Says No

Here is the scenario: You are suffering painful, recurring migraines. You head to your primary care physician. They prescribe pain medication to treat your migraine headaches. You are sent on your way to deal with the pain as it returns. You stop and think “maybe this isn’t right.” You ask your primary care physician about chiropractic care. They tell you it does not work or that you are only wasting your money. What should you do? Run.

For years, there have been some troubling problems between the traditional medical field and chiropractic care. Some primary care physicians believe that chiropractors are nothing but glorified spa masseuses. Is this true? No. In fact, these problems are slowly decreasing. More primary care physicians are realizing the benefits of chiropractic care. Unfortunately, you may have an “old school,” doctor who has yet to realize the benefits. What should you do?

First, turn to the internet. Perform a standard internet search with the phrase “chiropractic benefits.” You will see many results. Many are websites of chiropractors explaining their practice and their medical schooling. Others are firsthand accounts of pain suffering people who have sought and received relief from a chiropractor. So, if some people do seek relief from this type of medical care, why are some primary care physicians so against the procedure?

Call Today (863) 421-9700

For starters, it takes away from their profits. Doctors run profitable businesses, but those profits aren’t always staggeringly high amounts. With state aid from Medicaid and Medicare programs and insurance companies who only want to pay less, some private practices are suffering. Your primary care physician realizes that if you do seek relief from a chiropractor you will continue to seek that relief and no longer need their services as much. Someone suffering from financial troubles do not want to lose paying clients.

Although some primary care physicians are concerned about the financial aspects of losing patients to chiropractic care, others believe it does not work. Primary care physicians tend to believe that medications and surgery are best courses of treatment. Chiropractors utilize neither. They provide natural relief. In fact, they do more than just temporarily relieve the pain; they stop it at the source. They do so naturally with manual therapy. A patient with neck pain may just need an adjustment. This is done with precision force and thrust.

If you want to seek chiropractic care, do. You should not care what your primary care physician has to say. Truthfully, he or she should be supportive of your decision. If they believe it will not work, they should still let you try. A doctor who discourages you or outright prohibits you from seeing a chiropractor does not have your best interest at heart. As previously stated, this care is all natural, so there are no risks. Since there are no risks, you have nothing to lose.

If you are interested in scheduling an appointment with a chiropractor, turn to your local phonebook or the internet. If your primary care physician was unreceptive to the treatment, they likely don’t have a referral or suggestion for you. If covered by health insurance, see if coverage is extended to chiropractor care. If it is, choose one that accepts your insurance. With insurance coverage or price comparing, you can easily find an affordable chiropractor. Since you have nothing to lose physically and the costs are affordable, see what type of relief you can get.

5 Reasons to Visit a Chiropractor After A Car Accident in Davenport, Fl

Call Today (863) 421-9700

5 Reasons to Visit a Chiropractor After a Car Accident

Were you in a car accident? You feel fine, but are you? You may not know. That is why you should see a chiropractor. Do you need more reasons?

1 – You May Have an Injury and Not Know It

Most individuals mistakenly believe that they will be in pain if they have an injury. This is not always true. Damage to the body, muscles, joints, and spine typically hurts, but there are no guarantees. Some damage is just minor enough that there is no pain. However, a smaller injury or just time can lead to aggravation and then pain. Why not prevent this from happening? You can with chiropractic care.

After a car accident, a chiropractor will meet with you. They will gather your medical history, perform a quick physical exam, and ask questions about your car accident. They will diagnose any problems and decide on a course of treatment. This treatment can include joint adjustments or therapeutic massages to relieve pain that will go away on its own overtime.

2 – It Is Less Invasive

With chiropractic care, surgery is a last resort. Even then, you are referred to a specialty surgeon. No surgical tools or invasive medical procedures are needed for treatment. Chiropractors rely on manual therapy, which is therapy of the hands. As previously stated, a joint adjustment may be necessarily to properly realign a joint. This is done with precision force of the hands. There is no cutting of the skin or drawing of blood.

After a car accident, many accident victims fear seeking medical treatment. They worry about surgery or being loaded up on prescription medications that have many side effects. Although you may fear the hospital or your primary care physician, you have no reason to fear a chiropractor. Although you are seeking medical care, a trip to the chiropractor may actually feel more like a trip the spa than a doctor’s visit.

Call Today (863) 421-9700

3 – No Medications

As previously stated, chiropractic care involves the use of manual therapy. This is 100% all natural. If a chiropractor cannot see a patient right away, they may suggest the use of over-the-counter pain medications. After treatment, they are no longer needed. Pain relievers do provide relief, but that relief is short-lived and it only masks the problem. Chiropractors want to eliminate your pain, but they do so by going directly to the source.

Whiplash victims may receive ongoing massages to treat the pain and discomfort. Whiplash corrects itself overtime, but not all corrections are proper. A patient who does not wear a neck brace or does not limit their activities can experience complications. In these instances, neck adjustments or vertebrae realignment are preformed. Once again, this is done with the hands and not with medications or surgical tools.

4 – It Is Safe

Although chiropractic care is 100% natural, is there is some concern about the force used in adjustments. What if a chiropractor slips? Will more damage occur? These are legitimate questions, but you do not need to worry. Chiropractors are medical professionals. They are educated and trained as such. Not anyone can be a chiropractor. It requires training, education, the passing of many tests, and a state license. If your chiropractor is a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.), you can rest assure knowing you are safe in their hands.

Not only is chiropractor a safe form of healthcare, but it is ideal for individuals of all ages. In fact, some parents bring their newborns in for examination following birth! Yes, they really do and it is perfectly safe. If your child is in the car with you during an accident, their primary care physician may prescribe pain medication. It is very dangerous, especially for small children. The 100% natural relief of chiropractic care is safe for individuals of all ages and even pregnant women.

5 – It Is Sometimes Covered by Insurance

Following a car accident, your focus may be on costs. After all, your car is damaged. You may have to pay for a new method of transportation, but now healthcare too. As previously stated, some injuries are hard to spot immediately following an automobile accident. Don’t wait to get diagnosed until after the incident and after all insurance claims have been filed. Know now.

Luckily, many insurance providers extend coverage for chiropractic care. Many realize that it can lower their operating costs. The onetime cost of neck realignment is much cheaper than 10 years of prescribed pain medications or surgery.

Only 14 Days After Your Car Accident – That’s It

Call Today (863) 421-9700

Auto Accident | 14 days, Car Accident, PIP |

In The State of Florida, You Have 14 Days to Get Treatment… VERY IMPORTANT! If you are in an accident as a Floridian, it is very important to be aware that state law says you must have personal injury protection (PIP) or no fault coverage as part of your car insurance policy in the state of Florida. Simply put, if you purchase mandatory coverage, your insurance company will pay for 80% of the first $10,000 of your medical expenses if you suffer from an emergency medical condition in a car accident, and $2,500 if you do not.

Insurance Advice: Required coverage under the law also covers destruction to property like if you smash another automobile. Required coverage does not cover physical damage to the other driver if you do not purchase bodily liability in your auto insurance policy.

Call Today (863) 421-9700

For those who don’t know the law it has recently been changed & now has a touchy new stipulation. Residents of the state of Florida only have 14 days to get treatment after an auto accident. This is commonly know as “the 14 day rule,” and is distinctive to the state of Florida.

What is an initial treatment and what does it include? The 14 day rule applies to initial treatment only. Initial treatment is the first medical professional who evaluates you for your car accident injuries following an auto accident.

The law indicates which medical professionals count as initial treaters:

• Dentists • Emergency Transports (EMT) • Chiropractors (DC) • Hospitals • Medical Doctors (MD) • Walk-in Clinics

Call Today (863) 421-9700

This means that if you treat with a physical therapist, massage therapist, or other medical professional not listed above for your initial treatment during the 14 days following your car accident, then the insurance would not be required to cover the medical bills for treatment needed as a result of the car accident.

Insurance Advice: If you do not seek medical treatment within the 14 day window following your car accident, you will forfeit use of the motorist’s PIP coverage. Insurance companies are no longer required by law to cover the medical expenses of those who wait to get treated, regardless if symptoms manifest after 14 days.

How does the law define what is and is not an emergency medical condition (EMC)?The statute regarding EMC is not clear and as a result can be frustrating, but the impact is big. Your treating medical professional will check whether you have suffered an EMC. If they decide you have, you will receive up to $10,000 in PIP benefits. If they decide you have not, you will recover $2,500 in PIP benefits. The initial treating medical professional does not have to make this decision nor does it need to be made within the 14 days following the accident. In fact, the decision can be rendered at any time following the accident.

Call Today (863) 421-9700

Who may opine an EMC?Medical doctors, DO, PA, and advanced registered nurse practitioners may all render an EMC for you. It’s important to keep in mind Chiropractors cannot. A Chiropractor may state their patient has not suffered an EMC, but again, cannot affirm an EMC is present.

This part of the law is confusing to the majority, as it doesn’t really add up, and was enacted about a minute prior to resetting the law. A challenge to this rule is before the appellate courts in hopes of enacting change.

Why Put Up With Back Pain – Go Visit a Chiropractor

Call Today (863) 421-9700

Have you ever tweaked a muscle in your neck? Maybe you know what it feels like to injure a muscle in your lower back playing sports, at work or doing chores around the house.

We have all been there at some point. This can be extremely irritating and painful. If left untreated, a back injury can cause forever lasting damage.

More often than not, when we over extend muscles in our necks and backs we rush to the corner store or a physician & buy some over the counter mess.

There is nothing wrong with taking medicine to ease some of the discomfort, however that alone will not assist in the healing of your injury. Your trip to the store will be a revolving door.

Also, it’s important to keep in mind the medicine will lose its effectiveness over time so you will have to take a larger dose in order to feel the effects. This is why the back of the bottle says, “do not take any more than 4-6 pills in a 24 hour period.” This is an attempt to slow down that dulling affect in order to keep you on the medicine for as long as possible.

The best thing you can do for yourself when you have a neck, back or spinal issue is to make an appointment with a licensed chiropractor.

Call Today (863) 421-9700

A lot of folks are weary of chiropractors because they don’t understand what chiropractors actually do. Chiropractors are back physicians: they have learned just about everything there is to learn about your back. Chiropractors will be able to provide you the best advice for treating back injuries.

There is a large amount of treatments a chiropractor may offer you, including adjusting your back and neck by applying pressure, using acupuncture or laser acupuncture, and applying heat or cold to the injured area.

The next time you or someone you know injures their neck or back, think about what long term damage an injury can do if you ignore the pain and discomfort signs. Irritated muscles surrounding the injured area might make it difficult and very painful to heal correctly. Over an extended amount of time, this can cause severe damage over a larger part of your neck & back, causing you more discomfort & pain than you started with.

If what you just read reminds you of yourself or someone you know call a chiropractor you can trust to schedule your consultation as soon as possible.

After your first appointment, you will realize how helpful chiropractors are with dealing and healing the pain. A good chiropractor will discuss your situation on your terms and customize the best treatment plan for you. It’s truly worth it to make this effort; you will save yourself a lot of grief, pain and discomfort. Your body deserves the best care and comfort possible.

Whiplash Injury From A Car Accident

Call Today (863) 421-9700

Whiplash

The most common injuries sustained in car accidents in the Davenport and Haines City, Florida area are to the back and neck areas. Whiplash is the most common ailment and occurs when the head is suddenly thrust backward and then forward when a car has an accident.

Whiplash is a non-medical term used to describe neck pain following an injury to the soft tissues of your neck (specifically ligaments, tendons, and muscles). This is caused by a irregular force of motion applied to your neck and back that causes movement beyond the back & neck’s normal range of motion.

The velocity & speed of the cars involved in the accident or the amount of physical damage to the car may not relate to the intensity of neck injury; speeds as slow as 7 miles per hour can cause enough energy to produce whiplash in individuals even if they wear a seat belt.

When to Visit a Chiropractor

Call Today (863) 421-9700

There are many benefits visiting a Chiropractor.

You may have heard that chiropractic care has many benefits.  These benefits include natural relief of pain, discomfort, and difficulty walking.  You receive pain relief, but it isn’t like with over-the-counter medications.  Relief is a combination of instant and long-lasting.

When should you visit a chiropractor?

After a car accident.  Many car accident victims suffer from whiplash.  This is painful, but usually corrects on its own.  Therapeutic massages from a chiropractor can provide temporary relief.

As the natural correction occurs, a chiropractor will monitor the progression.  They will make the decision to perform an adjustment or realignment if and when the time is right.  Even if you aren’t diagnosed has having whiplash, there are still benefits to seeking chiropractic care after an automobile accident.

If participating in sports.  All athletes, both old and young, can benefit from continued chiropractic care.  After a sports injury, massage and adjustments are important for pain relief and to prevent later complications.  All athletes should seek chiropractic care after an injury, but you don’t have to wait.  Contact sports place a lot of pressure on the spine and other joints.

Call Today (863) 421-9700

If pregnant.  Many pregnant women mistakenly believe that chiropractic care is dangerous.  It isn’t.  In fact, there are many benefits to incorporating it into prenatal care.  Lower back pain is common in the later stages of pregnancy.  A chiropractor can eliminate these pains.  Also, the hormonal changes a woman experiences during pregnancy can bring back the pain from prior injuries.

If you just gave birth.  After labor, a woman’s body goes through many changes.  Severe labor pains and difficult labors can lead to join or spinal pain.  These are specialties treated by chiropractors.  Chiropractic care is safe for individuals of all ages.  Birth is not only difficult on the mother, but the child too.

Headaches.  As previously stated, individuals should see a chiropractor when experiencing pain and discomfort.  This is common with a headache.  Daily stress can cause headaches, but there can be a more serious underlying cause.  For example, muscle contractions can cause spinal pressure.  A neck adjustment or realignment can alleviate the pressure and pain.

Call Today (863) 421-9700

Arthritis.  Many arthritis patients mistakenly believe that they will suffer for the rest of their lives.  It does not have to be that way.  It is possible to seek relief from chiropractic care.  Over-the-counter pain relief pills and surgery aren’t your only option.  A chiropractor can adjust joints to promote free movement.  Therapeutic massages can treat ongoing chronic pain.

A chiropractor can help your child with lower back pains and frequent headaches, but that is not all.  Chiropractic care, spinal and joint manipulation can all reduce the discomfort associated with frequent earaches, allergies, sleep disorders, and scoliosis.

When stress consumes your life.  With the troubling economy, growing number of layoffs, and increasing number of foreclosures, all Americans have stress.  There is a difference between stressing over losing your home and stressing over the little things, such as having a clean house.  Those who suffer from stress severe enough to have a panic attack cannot only benefit from relaxing therapeutic massages, but adjustments too.  Occasionally, an aggravated nerve route sends confusing messages to the brain.

If you just want to improve your health.  Overtime, it is easy to develop spine and joint problems.  These problems may be mild and may not even result in pain, but that may change later in life.  Chiropractic care also prevents free and healthy movement.  It does so with no medications or invasive procedures.  If you want your body to stay healthy, active, and natural, chiropractic care is the way to go.

In short, most patients want a reason to seek chiropractic care.  In fact, their insurance providers would like a reason too.  Truthfully, you can seek care for any reason or none at all.

Don’t Like Your Chiropractor

Call Today (863) 421-9700

What If You Don’t Like Your Chiropractor.

Chiropractic care has many benefits.  A chiropractor can do more than just alleviate the pain and discomfort of a joint or muscle.  Chiropractic care can treat and manage allergies, arthritis, sleep difficulties, earaches, scoliosis, and more.  Essentially, if anything is causing you pain or stress, chiropractic care can help.  For that reason, you may be one of the millions of individuals who seek treatment.  But, what if you get a chiropractor you don’t like?

First, examine your reasons for not liking him or her.  Be sure you have a good reason.  As previously stated, chiropractic care has many benefits.  It is usually less intimidating than traditional medical care, but some still find it overwhelming.  Don’t let your fear of seeking treatment mistakenly translate into dislike for your care provider.

As stated above, you should have a legitimate reason for not liking your chiropractor.  Two good examples include blame and not listening.  Do you need to constantly discuss your pain with your chiropractor?  Are they not listening to your explanation of trigger factors or answering your questions?  You shouldn’t have to constantly repeat yourself.  Yes, chiropractors do see many patients, but your medical history is recorded or at least it should be.

Call Today (863) 421-9700

As for blame, this is common with parents.  Has your child been suffering from lower back pain for years?  Poor posture or a heavy backpack may be to blame.  At first, you may have written off your child’s pain and discomfort as normal growing pains.  As the pains continued to get worse or increased in frequency, you may have visited a local chiropractor.  You thought you were doing good, but the chiropractor criticized you for waiting so long.  This should not happen.  In terms of chiropractic care, early is best, but better late than never.

So, what should you do if you truly do not like your chiropractor?

Voice your concerns.  A problem cannot be corrected if it isn’t first addressed.  Unfortunately, this can be difficult for some.  Most chiropractors run their own businesses, meaning they are the boss.  You have to voice your concerns directly to the individual who irritates you or makes you uncomfortable.  Do it.  Most chiropractors have great people skills, but not all do.  If yours unintentionally offended you, he or she will try to rectify the problem and prevent it from happening again.

Find a new chiropractor.  If you fear discussing your concerns with your chiropractor or do and do not see any changes, it may be time to find a new doctor.  If covered by health insurance, contact your insurance provider to get a list of chiropractic care centers in your area.  Research your options and read reviews online.  Ask those that you know for suggestions.  You will have to start again and redo all paperwork, undergo new evaluations, and decide on a new course of treatment, but you should get a new doctor that you feel more comfortable with.

Call Today (863) 421-9700

Now that you know what to do if you don’t like your chiropractor, what should you not do?

Don’t stop seeking care.  Not all chiropractors are the same.  One may blame you for not seeking care immediately, but most will not mention a word.  In fact, some will comment that it is better late than never.  Some chiropractors will remember every word you say and others will seem like they could care less.  Just because you may get “one bad apple,” don’t give up on this beneficial care.

Do not stop showing up for your appointments.  For continued care, appointments are scheduled in advance.  You may already have two or three appointments scheduled.  If you want to change providers, do it.  Cancel all appointments first.  If you don’t, you may be charged for them anyways.

In conclusion, not all chiropractors are the same. A healthy relationship with yours is important to successful treatment.  If you are dissatisfied with the treatment received, voice your concerns or find a new provider.  If at any point you feel in danger or harassed by your provider, contact the authorities or the American Chiropractic Association (ASA).
